In 2020, as part of its ambitious Long Term Plan, the NHS published its People Promise. This sets out what staff can expect from their leaders and from each other. It focuses on how we must all continue to look after each other and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, as well as take action to grow our workforce, train our people and work together differently to deliver patient care. These ambitions have been bolstered by the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan published in June 2023.

Within Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, we want to ensure that these principles are embedded across the entirety of our system, to include not only health but social care and to help organisations achieve real tangible improvements in staff retention.
