More than 112,000 COVID-19 vaccinations have been delivered across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent this spring.

Eligible people are being urged to come forward now as the programme enters its final weeks ahead of the 30 June deadline.

Uptake across the area is above regional and national averages, with thousands already vaccinated to help protect those most at risk of serious illness and support healthier communities.

The NHS is encouraging eligible groups, including those aged 75 and over, older adult care home residents, and people with weakened immune systems, to get protected before the programme ends on 30 June. Online booking closes on 29 June 2026.

Dr Melanie Thompson, local GP based in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “It’s great to see that uptake for the COVID-19 spring vaccination has been so strong in the area.

“There is still time for people who are eligible to come forward and get their vaccine before the programme ends on 30 June, and I would encourage anyone who hasn’t yet had it to take up the offer.

“COVID-19 can still cause serious illness, particularly for those most at risk, and vaccination remains the best way to reduce the risk of severe disease and hospital admission.”

Di Hughes, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Targeted Vaccination Team Manager for Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust said: “We’ve had a really positive response to our walk-in clinics this spring, with many people telling us how convenient it is not to have to go online, or how they can pop in to get their jab while running errands in town or attending their regular group or activity.

“Our vaccination teams are always on hand to answer questions and talk through any concerns, helping people get the information they need to make the right decision for them.”

How to get the COVID-19 vaccine:

Eligible people can book via the NHS App, online, by calling 119 free of charge, or by attending a walk-in clinic.

The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine helps protect against infection with RSV, a common virus that can make babies and older adults seriously ill.

How to get the RSV vaccine:

The NHS is also encouraging those aged 75 and over, all residents in a care home for older adults and pregnant women from 28 weeks to get the RSV vaccine by booking an appointment with their GP practice or speaking to their maternity services. Those eligible for both COVID-19 and RSV vaccines may be able to receive them at the same appointment.
