Victoria Atkins has been appointed Health and Social Care Secretary as part of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s cabinet reshuffle.

Ms Atkins, MP for Louth and Horncastle, takes over from Steve Barclay, who is the new Environment Secretary.

She has been a Conservative MP since 2015 and was Financial Secretary to the Treasury before today’s cabinet reshuffle.

Previously, Ms Atkins was Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice before resigning from Boris Johnson’s government in July 2022.

Ms Atkins is from Lancashire and worked as a barrister before becoming an MP.

Her appointment as Health and Social Care Secretary is one of many in the cabinet reshuffle, with former Prime Minister David Cameron also being named the new Foreign Secretary and James Cleverly taking over from Suella Braverman as Home Secretary.
