The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has today (Tuesday 19 December) been answering questions from the Liaison Committee. The Liaison Committee is made up of Select Committee Chairs and considers the overall work of select committees, promotes effective scrutiny of Government and chooses committee reports for debates. It questions the Prime Minister about policy, usually three times a year.

Junior doctors dispute

Steve Brine MP, the chair of the committee, congratulated the Prime Minister on hopefully sorting a resolution to the NHS consultants dispute and asked how the Prime Minister is going to end the junior doctor’s action.

Rishi Sunak said it is very disappointing that the junior doctors have rejected the offer after reaching a resolution with every other public sector and every other part of the NHS, despite, he says, the junior doctors receiving the biggest increase in their pay since through the independent public pay process.

Dental Recovery Plan

Steve Brine questioned when the Dental Recovery Plan will be published. Rishi Sunak said it will be in the new year (he can’t give a precise date), £3bn has been invested in NHS dentistry and the plan once published will aid this progress.
