Sore throats are very common and usually nothing to worry about. They normally get better by themselves within a week.

Who can use this service

  • Adults and children aged five and over. 

Who cannot use this service

  • Pregnant people under the age of 16 should contact their GP practice. 
  • If you’ve had tonsilitis lots of times in past 12 months to 3 years, or have had your tonsils removed the pharmacist will provide advice only.        

Symptom of a sore throat

  • a painful throat, especially when swallowing
  • a dry, scratchy throat
  • redness in the back of your mouth
  • bad breath
  • a mild cough
  • swollen neck glands
