Spaces are available on a successful programme running across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent which supports people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on their path to remission.

Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) is supporting the programme which provides participants with the help and support they need to lose weight, improve their blood sugar levels, and reduce reliance on medication – all of which can help put type 2 diabetes into remission.

It is run across the whole of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, and is available in locations such as Tamworth, Burton upon Trent, Cannock and Stoke-on-Trent, provided by Reed Wellbeing.

Kelly Wilson, from Stoke-on-Trent, says the programme has transformed her life, with weight loss and better health.

“Before joining, I felt stuck. I had tried everything to get my diabetes under control…since starting, my lifestyle has completely changed. I’ve cut out caffeine, and I make sure to exercise every day—at least 15 to 20 minutes of walking. My diet is healthier than ever, and I feel in control…

“The results have been incredible. I’ve lost 25 kilos, and my blood pressure, which was 172/99 when I started, is now down to 138/88. I’m also keeping my blood glucose under control without any medication. That’s something I never thought would be possible.

“The programme has completely transformed my life. I look and feel better than I ever have, and I have so much more confidence in managing my diabetes through diet and exercise. I’m proud to be making healthier choices every day.”

Dr Hannah Missen, Clinical Lead and GP at Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICB, said: “We would encourage anyone living in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent who has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes to find out more about the Path to Remission programme from their GP or health professional.

“The programme has helped over 500 participants with type 2 diabetes since its launch in September 2023 in the region.”

Path to Remission is delivered either in-person or digitally. If the participant chooses to join the programme in-person, a suitable venue local to the participant will be selected.
