A senior Staffordshire nurse has been awarded an MBE for services to primary care nursing.

Gill Boast, Practice Nurse Facilitator, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) and General Practice Nursing Foundation School Training Programme Lead, Staffordshire Training Hub, has been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List.

Gill, who has been a nurse for 47 years and spent 27 years working in general practice, has previously been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title and a national Chief Nursing Officer Silver Award.

She has played a key role in developing the General Practice Nursing Foundation School, a groundbreaking initiative to embed high-quality practice-based learning for nurses in GP practices across Staffordshire.

Gill balances time directly supporting patients with education and leadership work, including being published several times in respected academic journals and textbooks.

Simon Whitehouse, Chief Executive for the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board, said:

“Congratulations to Gill for this remarkable and thoroughly well-deserved achievement. Having shown such strong commitment to both patients and improving community nursing over so many years, she is a leading voice in her field, hugely respected by colleagues and we are delighted she is part of our team in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.”
